This month Bikelife Suffolk came to our school in April and is a new year long programme of cycling activities designed to ensure that children and families are given the opportunities, skills, support and guidance they need to make cycling part of their everyday lives. Working with Key Stage 2 pupils in 8 schools in Bury St Edmunds the aim is to ensure that cycling becomes a normal way of getting to and from school.

The overall objective of the project was to increase those cycling to school at least once per week to 15% of KS2 children & parents in all schools. To achieve this we delivered a variety of exciting cycling activities as well as running competitions within and amongst school to enthuse everyone about cycling.

The programme was launched after Easter and our school hosted a try out show, so children and parents could have the opportunity to ride a variety of bikes and even have a go on our pedal powered juke box! The day was an amazing success and fun for both the kids and parents, even grandparents! We hope the message got across to all of them about how cycling can be part of their lives getting to and from our school.
