Since the last edition of the Southgate Directory Spring is definitely in the air and as always we’ve been extremely busy here at Hardwick Primary School.

The building work for our three new classrooms has begun. The site has been cleared and the foundations dug. I’m sure it won’t be long before the walls start to go up! The children have also entered into a competition to design a road safety sign which will be erected in Steward Road. The entries are being judged by Councillor Sarah Stamp (who is funding the sign) and Ann Williamson (Chair of the Nowton Residents Association). The aim is to remind drivers about driving carefully and to slow down near the school. We look forward to see the winning entry.

Carrying on our ethos of enriching the curriculum with exciting and stimulating learning experiences, just before half term the children in Key Stage 1 had a sleep over in the school hall as part of their ‘Night at the museum’ topic! The children and the s (although a little bleary eyed the next morning) had a wonderful time.

To kick start their new topic on Australia the Key Stage 1 children w to Australia on Hardwick Airways! They were greeted by our stewardesses at the terminal building where they had their (make believe) passports checked and on boarding the plane went through the usual safety checks before taking off for their (30 minute) flight to Australia! On landing they spent the day on a carousel of Australia themed activities. The children are due to fly home in a couple of weeks. I wonder if their parents have missed them.

Our Year 4 children have had a great couple of weeks spending three days last week at Kingswood residential activity centre where they tried their hand at quad biking, fencing, indoor climbing, caving and team challenges to name a few. For the majority of the children this was the first time of going away without their parents and they all had a great time and a memorable experience!  The other was meeting professional footballers Luke Varney and Paul Anderson from Ipswich Town Football Club! As a ‘friend‘ of the club and as part of ITFC work within the community, we organised for the players to visit the school to take part in a mock press conference so the children could ask their questions and then use the players’ responses as a stimulus for their journalistic writing.

So as the spring term comes to an end and we get ready for an exciting summer term, on behalf of everyone at Hardwick Primary School I wish you all a happy Easter.

Best wishes,
