Welcome to the 19th hole, a place for golf tips, reviews  and everything golf related.

I trust that the new year is being good to you all.

Although it’s been a cold start to the year I hope you’re all managing to venture out on the course whether it be at your own course or having a nice away day to other golf club.

I hope the new year’s resolutions are still going well, for those of you that have made golf resolutions or goals I hope you have written these down and put things in place to help you achieve these.

If however this time of year you can’t find the time o practice and play, or even bring yourself to be cold for a long period of time. There are still things you can do in the house to keep your hand in.

Coaches Tip – Build Your Own Putting Green
So it’s cold and wintery outside and you do not like the idea of standing on the practice green at the golf club. Firstly I don’t blame you, but that doesn’t mean you can’t practice your putting from the comfort of your own home. All you need to practice your putting at home is some golf balls and your putter, the rest you will already have around the house.

Here I have two drills for you to try both of which will allow you to work on an aspect of your putting game. This practice just may make the difference on course when the weather improves.

Drill 1: Find a good area of carpet or open floor spae, and practice your aim/alignment.

  • Pick anything to aim at, a chair leg, or a mug for example.
  • Start close to the object, trying to hit it or roll into the mug.
  • Every time you make a successful putt, move back a foot. If you miss come back to where you were.
  • See how far away from the object you can get in 10 balls.
  • Record your score and try again later.
  • You can make this drill harder by upping the amount of successful putts made before moving back to the next point.

Drill 2: This drill is designed to help you with your pace of putts.

  •  Find an area where there is an open wall at one end.
  • The aim is to get the ball to finish as close o the wall without hitting the wall.
  • Any ball that contacts the wall is removed and closest point is marked.
  • Then repeat and try and beat your previous best result.
  • Once you have masters this distance move closer or further away.
