Working as a team of Physiotherapists, Osteopaths, Medical Acupuncturist and Podiatrist. ‘Sharing skills for better care’.

People are often confused as to who they should see for their pain or disability and the intention behind Abbeyfields is to remove that confusion and simply provide the best and most pragmatic solution for a swift recovery.

In contrast to other mixed therapy centers this ‘Person Centered’ approach is based on individual case managed care. This may mean that after diagnosis a treatment plan is discussed with you and might involve combination treatments of ‘Handson’ work with some medical acupuncture and supported with a specialist rehabilitation plan from their Physiotherapist.

Principal Osteopath James Woledge wanted to move away from the historic model of ‘one size fits all’ where for example manipulation, or strengthening exercises, are all you need to cure your back pain. “The overwhelming evidence suggests this narrow approach is not the best solution for most musculoskeletal problems. We are also passionate about helping you understand your condition/pain and believe that this is a vital component of your recovery”.

James set up the clinic with his wife Join 2011 with the aim of providing a premium service that keeps a breast of new developments and invests in the best available technology. This ethos is evident in the acquisition of Extracorporeal Shockwave from leading Swiss company Storz Medical. James explains;“We saw the evidence base for this technology grow over the last 2-3 years and decided that it would be an excellent addition to our services. It offers the best non-surgical solution to chronic tendon problems that have failed to recover with normal treatment options. Our clinic also benefits from being partnered with Professor Maffuli (Orthopaedic
surgeon at St. Barts, London) on the ASSERT database which is a N.I.C.E approved study looking at ways to improve treatment outcomes with Shockwave“.
