Welcome to the very first issue of The Southgate Directory!
Whilst it’s a new publication for your area, we’ve been producing a similar publication for the Moreton Hall area for 10 years. Residents in Moreton Hall find it really useful and we hope you will too.
There are plenty of articles and news specifically about the Southgate area from all your local community representatives, as well as lifestyle features plus offers and news from local businesses.
We’d like to thank ALL the Southgate community for getting involved and supplying content for the magazine, in particular Bob Jones, who has been instrumental in helping us produce this publication for you.
Welcome to the NEW Southgate Directory, we hope you enjoy reading about your area, and we’ll see you in February!

Your Southgate…
The Southgate area of Bury St Edmunds is a small town/large village in its own right with a great sense of community.
Around 4500 people live here and many more come in each day to work. Developed mainly in the late 60’s through to the 80’s it has a diverse housing stock, including sheltered housing and retirement flats, three schools, and two verdant parks in Nowton and Hardwick.
It has within its boundaries West Suffolk Hospital and St Nicholas Hospice, together with a bustling shopping precinct and the Macebearer pub.
At its heart is the Southgate Community Centre – now owned and run by local people plus Southgate Church, which celebrated its 40th birthday in 2014.
