We wanted to use our first column in this fantastic magazine to say hello and tell you a little bit about ourselves.

West Suffolk Hospital has actually been a registered charity since 1995. In the last couple of years, the hospital has not been immune to the wider economic problems we have all faced, so it has taken a more pro-active stance towards fundraising.

As with so many of us, the Hospital has shown amazing care to my family – my mum, my brother, my God-daughter, my wife and my two sons.

I started fundraising, on a voluntary basis, when my son George was born six weeks premature. The care shown by everyone in the hospital, from Neonatal Unit staff to a hospital director who made a special point in making sure my wife and I were ok, will never be forgotten. I was honoured to be appointed Fundraising Manager 18 months ago.

In 2015, we will organise five big events throughout the year – a charity football match against Ipswich Town legends, a sky dive, Walk for Wards, It’s a Bury Knockout 2015 and our Christmas online auction.
Over the last year, we have made a sustained effort to support as many areas of the hospital as possible – from those helping our youngest patients right through to the oldest.

Our big appeal throughout 2014 was the Forget-Me-Not Dementia Campaign and over the next few months, we will be focusing on other areas while never stopping fundraising for this crucial campaign.

But we are also here to support each and every fundraising effort in our generous community. We are here to help with fundraising, donations, legacies – any way people would like to help their hospital.

We are constantly blown away by the level of support and generosity we encounter on a daily basis and our vow is to continue working hard to further enhance the care and support West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust offers to patients and families.
