The deputy leader of St Edmundsbury Borough Council has donated part of her locality funding to a village pre-school in her area.
The Rougham Acorns and Woodlands group is a charity run a pre school as well as a school holiday club, including before and after school activities.
Cllr Sara Mildmay-White, who represents the Rougham Ward was approached for funding by group chairperson Sonia Thurlow late last year.
“I became chairperson in October 2014 and noticed that the group had no IT equipment. I approached Cllr Mildmay-White and secured funding towards a new iPad. We have already downloaded dozens of free learning apps specifically catered for the children. It is a great learning tool and will be used for group activities such as jigsaw puzzles, as well as individual learning. We are very grateful for the grant funding,” said Mrs Thurlow.
Cllr Mildmay-White, who is Cabinet Member for Health and Communities said: “This funding is specifically there to help benefit our local families and communities. I was only too pleased to help. The group caters for up to 24 children at a time. Although it is a pre-school it also runs before and after school clubs and holiday activities for children as old as 12 and I can see real benefits in having this modern technology available for the youngsters to use.”
The new i-Pad can also be used in conjunction with a new 77″ Interactive whiteboard paid for with a grant from Suffolk County Cllr Terry Clements from his locality budget for the area.
Cllr Mildmay-White meanwhile, has revealed that she has a further £950 of her £2,500 locality budget still to give to groups in her area.
So far she has donated £150 to Stanningfield village fun day, £300 to a Bradfield St George family event, £500 to the Rougham War Memorial restoration and another £500 to work on the Bradfield War Memorial. Contact her at sara.mildmay-white@stedsbc.gov.uk
The Rougham Acorns and Woodland group is open to new members and will be running a half term holiday club from 16 February.
Activities include a forensic science day, Mardi Gras mask making, a craft day, writing and recording music, as well as bingo and plenty more.
