To help with the rising cost of living and increasing energy bills, Theatre Royal are opening up their café area as a warm space with a warm welcome for anyone who needs it.
Funded by West Suffolk Council’s Winter Response Fund and in conjunction with Rural Coffee Caravan’s Warm Spaces project, Bailey’s 2 and Crafty Foxes, TOASTY TUESDAYS will initially run for 10 weeks over the winter months from 10am to 12.30pm.
TOASTY TUESDAYS is available for anyone to use – no questions asked. It is an opportunity to grab a hot drink and have a bite to eat in the warm.
Theatre Royal’s Artistic Director, Owen Calvert-Lyons is excited to open up the theatre for those in need, “We want to provide a welcoming warm space for those who are struggling with heating their homes this winter. Theatre Royal is a place that welcomes, engages and connects with the local community and by joining this fantastic initiative we can provide anyone who needs it, a safe, warm space to have a chat, meet new people or simply enjoy a hot drink and sit down in our beautiful building.”
The National Energy Action (NEA) – a fuel poverty charity, predicts that 11,400 winter deaths are already caused by cold weather each year and with the cost of heating rising to an all-time high, this figure is set to rise this year. It is being hailed as a public health emergency.
Anyone wishing to drop-in to Theatre Royal’s TOASTY TUESDAYS can enjoy complimentary hot and cold drinks along, freshly made vegetable soup with bread and fresh fruit, all provided by Bailey’s 2.
The space is wheelchair accessible with accessible toilets, device charging, free Wi-Fi and baby changing. Crafty Foxes have kindly provided some festive craft kits for anyone feeling a little bit creative.
