Brought to you by Councillor Frank Warby

I hope you all had a Happy Christmas and enjoy a prosperous new year. Only two months until spring, but until then it will be a cold two months. December was an unusual month, the excellent Christmas Fayre, put on by St Edmundsbury Borough Council which brought 120,000 people to Bury. Yes, it caused disruption to our routine, traffic, school runs, one way systems, howeve, most reports say it was well worth it, especially for the local economy. Through the year, Bid for Bury puts on several events like the Beach, the Farmers Market and many other events which can and does sometimes cause a bit of chaos, but we all enjoy them. Thanks Bid 4 Bury.

TRAVELLERS
On the 10th December the travellers left their site just off Mount Road and moved onto the drive towards the Flying Fortress. They said they moved in order to clear up the old site. I have visited the old site and it is in good, clean condition. A letter was sent out from St Edmundsbury stating that the travellers would be moving to another site on Compiegne Way. My understanding is that a site was being prepared on the water meadow just down from the tesco roundabout. By the time you are reading this I wonder where the travellers will be. The travellers have applied for planning permission for a permanent site, the application goes before St Edmundsbury Borough Council in February for consideration.

PARKING PROBLEMS
I have had several emails about bad parking around our estate. In particular, commercial vehicles parking opposite each other, therefore blocking vehicles passing. A few weeks ago, when a refuse vehicle was unable to pass between two cars it left residents with bins not emptied. Please report these careless drivers. Another related issue is corner cutting, if you look at most of the entrances to our roads and closes you will see large gouges caused by drivers cutting the corner, the worst example of this is the entrance to Tesco where cars have been damaged by the depth of the holes. Take the corner correctly by using the space allocated.  A little care goes a long way.

LAWSON SURGERY
I have been asked to repeat the ongoing problem with missed appointments both for doctors and nurses. Should you not be able to keep an appointment all you have to do is phone, email or text. As it is, many people who need to see a doctor or nurse can’t because they are fully booked, then someone decides not to turn up and an appointment is missed which could have been used. Come on, please make the effort to let the surgery know, it might be someone near to you needing that slot. Rant over!

OTHER NEWS
There is a lot going on this year, the link road, the football/sports centre, new upper school, extensions to our primary schools. To top it all we will have the national and local elections. These elections will be a little complicated, you will be voting for your MP and your local borough councillors, not forgetting your town council. Whatever your political views, please use your vote.

Until next time, Frank Warby
