Do you know what My WiSH Charity support? Well, unlike many other charities, we really don’t have just one thing! It’s so varied and we actually support about 100 areas of the West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust.
This starts before we are born all the way through until it’s time to say goodbye. We don’t provide anything that the NHS should provide but we enhance care and support the amazing staff.
With that in mind we thought you would like to hear about some of the few of the things we’ve purchased over the past couple of months.
DVD players
All patients can watch free TV, have access to the radio, newspapers and magazines with a smart phone but for those who don’t own one we lend out large screen DVD players so the patient can enjoy a large selection of DVD’s during their stay.
Garden
Thanks to a fantastic donation we provided a garden at Newmarket Community Hospital which allows patients, including those in a bed, to enjoy some fresh air.
Toys
Toys are wonderful, but they don’t just work for play, they work for therapy! Donations meant we provided toys to the community speech and language team to help them with their young patients.
Cushions
Although we don’t make the cushions, we work with the breast cushion care group to provide the fabric and filling for these wonderful cushions which help women who have undergone breast surgery.
Nebulisers
More patients are needing respiratory care in the community. To ensure they stay in the comfort of their home we recently provide five nebulisers to aid their treatment.
Goodies
It’s tough being a young patient with lots of procedures needing to be done. We provide boxes of goodies to paediatric teams to help them send their young patients on their way with a smile.
This is just six things from a long list, all bought thanks to your donations. If you would like to support us, you can do so by going to www.mywishcharity.co.uk/donate. Every penny really does make a difference.
And finally, it’s not all about buying things. August saw a special visitor come to Newmarket Community Hospital as Papineau, a beautiful G1 Ascot Gold Cup winner, came to say hello to the patients thanks to Godolphin. It was a wonderful day and the patients absolutely loved it. You can watch the full video on our YouTube channel here.
