We are thrilled to announce that September saw us open the doors to our end-of-life Butterfly Garden.

The space has been created thanks to donations to our Butterfly Garden Appeal and was built to ensure families get time together as they prepare to say goodbye to a loved one. It has been designed to feel like a home from home, to allow people to share time and memories and to enjoy the outside space, whatever the weather.

We have worked with some incredible people to make this happen with many of the contractors donating time or discounting their work. In fact, so many people have been involved in this project it’s impossible to thank them all personally.

However, special thanks must go to Den Humphries from Out Of Our Tree. Den has created three amazing wooden butterfly sculptures, one of which ‘dances’ in the breeze.

Bury based home design store, Neptune, not only designed the interior for our garden room, but generously donated many pieces of the furniture. This has allowed us to create a wonderful living room for people to enjoy.

Mike Wells, from AJ Joinery, built us wooden planters and Pat and Jim Dowling donated beautiful garden statues. We also worked closely with staff from the hospital to create this space and it has been fantastic to build these new relationships.
Our brief, when the appeal was launched with the Bury Free Press, was to create a garden with a glass-fronted building which would allow patients and their loved ones to spend quality time together, away from the hustle and bustle of the wards, as they prepare to say goodbye. We aimed to provide an area for quiet contemplation, peaceful reflection and a space where children could play and pets could visit and memories to treasure could be made.

Feedback on our open day shows we achieved just this, and we are pleased to have now handed over the Butterfly Garden to the West Suffolk Hospital’s palliative care team who will be able to invite families to come and spend precious time together.

Finally, we cannot finish this article without thanking our amazing donors, we continue to receive donations which will allow us to continue to support the palliative care team and their patients with the many initiatives we currently have in place as well as any new ones in the future. Thank you from all of us at My WiSH Charity and the families who you have made a difference too.
