In the last issue of the Southgate Directory I wrote about the land at the rear of the Macebearer that the Residents Association is being allowed to develop into a community garden. However, before we can commence planting etc. we need to raise approximately £300 for insurance which will be an ongoing cost. I would like to thank those of you who have offered to help with the work in the garden and this will commence as soon as we have insurance in place.

At our Public Meeting in March Damien Parker, from St Edmundsbury Borough Council, came along at the invitation of Sarah Stamp to display the six designs that had been submitted as part of the tender process for the Play Park. Residents present were given the opportunity to ask questions and put forward their choices of designs and these will be taken into consideration when awarding the contract. It is hoped that the play area will be ready for the children to use by the summer holidays.

The West Suffolk Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is consulting on a draft Masterplan to guide development in the short and medium term on the site at Hardwick Lane. You can view the Masterplan at a public exhibition on Thursday 2nd April 2-8pm in the Committee Room at the West Suffolk Hospital or you can view this and other supporting documents at www.wsh.nhs.uk/master planning.

This week I was given the opportunity, along with Sarah Stamp, of judging a safety sign competition at Hardwick Primary school where children had been invited to design a road sign to be placed in Steward Road to make road users aware of children being in the area. Our thanks to Sarah who will be funding the sign from her locality budget.

I had hoped to take photographs of the daffodils in bloom in the newly planted seating area in Caie Walk for this months magazine but unfortunately the cold weather appears to have halted their progress but I will post them on the website as soon as they appear.

If you know of anyone in the Southgate Ward who is not receiving a copy of the Directory there are copies available at the community centre.

Do come and say hello to us at the Fun Day on Monday 4th May at Southgate Community Centre, always good to meet the residents.

Finally, if you would like to join the Residents Association please send a cheque for £2.50 per household made payable to Nowton Neighbourhood Residents Association and address it to the NNRA, Southgate Community Centre, Caie Walk, Bury St Edmunds.
