Your Community Centre is situated alongside Hardwick Shopping Precinct, the Macebearer pub and Hardwick Primary School.  Local people are totally responsible for the Centre and own the building through the Southgate Community Partnership (SCP).  Over 20 groups use the facilities on a regular basis with 300 + people enjoying activities each week.  We welcome bookings for ad hoc events and social functions with hire rates being very competitive.

We have a busy few months ahead so give one of our many events YOUR support.

COMMUNITY FUNDAY 15th
May the Forth Be with You!  Our theme this year is Star Wars!!  Following the great success of our Community Fun Day on May Day Monday last year we are  planning the next one on Monday 4 May 2015 which we hope will be even bigger and better.  Last year we had bouncy castles and obstacle courses, stalls, refreshments, live entertainment from two local bands, fancy dress, climbing wall, pony rides, chocolate bingo, face painting and lots more – with the day soccer competition.  The event raised nearly £800 for the tor appeal.  If you are interested in having a stall or arranging an activity, contact Andy Abbott on mail@abbott-photography.co.uk. Be there on Monday 4 May – on the Hardwick Primary School Field and Southgate Community Centre.

TRIP TO LONDON – SATURDAY 15 MAY
Our ever popular trip to London leaves again on 15 May.  We whisk you from Home Farm Lane to the Embankment in London at 9 am departing around 7 pm giving you plenty of time in the capital for taking in a West End matinee, sightseeing, shopping and much more.  Tickets are £15 but you need to book soon as this is a very popular trip which sells out quickly.

BINGO – EYES DOWN FOR A FULL HOUSE – 13th February and 6th March
There is a monthly Bingo evening at the Community Centre at 7pm on a Friday evening.  The next two sessions are on Friday February and Friday March.  Come along for a relaxing fun evening – refreshments are served.

RESTART THE HEART – OUR COMMUNITY’S DEFIBRILLATOR APPEAL
We told you last month about our life saving appeal.  The Southgate Community Partnership has been fundraising for an automatic tor to be installed outside of our Community Centre – also to serve the shops, pub and primary school.  We started in May last year with a target of £2500 and we had raised around £800 to date from the proceeds of our Fun Day and two gifts from Southgate Church.
Great news – after learning about our appeal, a local medical charity, the St Edmund’s Trust has awarded us a grant to add to our community fundraising so that we can order the defibrillator without further delay.  We are planning an opening ceremony and some familiarisation sessions so that local people can use it with confidence should the need arise.

The concert with Jonathan Veira, the international singer, has been postponed until later in the year at a date to be arranged– apologies for that.

You read this first in the Southgate Directory.  We thank the publishers for a great new magazine just for our local area.  Everyone we have spoken to thinks it is great!
