Brought to you by Councillors Sarah Stamp and Patrick Chung

Summer is here at last and I hope you are all busy enjoying the sunshine, I know we are – long may it last! There is much going on at the moment, both in the Southgate area and right across the town.
Please do get in touch with us if you would like us to help with something, Until next time, Sarah and Patrick

COMMUNITY PICNIC TO CELEBRATE NEW PARK!

After a long wait, work is very nearly finished at “The Dump” playpark and it will soon be open for action! We are both proud that we managed to secure the funding to make this long overdue revamp happen and can’t wait to see it open and being used over the summer holidays.

To celebrate, we are planning a community picnic and inviting everyone from the Southgate community to come along and join us.

The picnic will happen on Sunday 30th August 2-4pm, simply bring your own picnic and family and join us for an afternoon of fun! The park will be officially opened by Cllr Patrick Chung, Mayor of St Edmundsbury, and there will be craft and fun activities for all, as well as the chance to catch up with friends old and new and give us your feedback on the new park. We really hope to see you there.

LAUNDRY LANE

We have had several complaints about litter on Laundry Lane. As a result, the waste team and the road sweeper from St Edmundsbury Borough Council have visited, cleared up the area and will be increasing their visits there. Sarah has offered to use her locality budget to fund a bin for the Lane, which we are hoping will help.

ANTI SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR

As we have been having lighter evenings and warmer weather, we are aware of several instances of antisocial behaviour in the area, particularly on the green behind the community centre. We are working closely with the Police to tackle this, but if you see anything that troubles you please do call the Police on 101 and report it. It’s really sad that a few people cause damage to the area when we are all working so hard to make it look better, let’s hope it’s just a temporary problem.

COMMUNITY LITTER PICK

Our next community litterpick will take place on Tuesday 22nd September, 10-12pm meeting at the Community Centre. Everyone is welcome to join local councillors, Police, Residents Association, schoolchildren and residents (and even the Bury Free Press!) to help make our area look better. The event is supported by Waste Officers from St Edmundsbury Borough Council and all equipment is provided. We hope you will be able to join us!

CAN WE HELP WITH YOUR PROJECT?

As Councillors we get a small pot of money to give out in grants to community groups or events in our areas. We have used ours for various things including the website for the residents association, new toilets at the community centre, the new park, new football kit for the Hardwick Primary team and decorations for the Valentines Ball. If you run a community group or have an idea for a community project please do be in touch – we would love to hear from you and to try and help.

WOLF TRAIL

Have you seen the amazing wolf trail in the town centre? Sarah used some of her locality budget to support this project, which it is hoped will draw visitors into the town and also teach residents about the heritage of the town and the legend of St Edmunds. There are a selection of great wolves, created by local artists spread right across the town centre, so please do pay them a visit! More info here http://www. ourburystedmunds.com/wolftrail

Community Garden update

The community garden project is planned to start in September. This project is being driven by the Nowton Neighbourhood Residents Association and will transform the overgrown area behind The Macebearer. We want as many members of the community as possible to get involved, email annwilliamson60@gmail.com for details of how you can help.
