In 2021 will see The Women’s Section celebrate our centenary year, in 2016 the Bury St Edmunds branch celebrated our 90th year with a church service at St Peters Church Hospital Road.
In the past women were able to enjoy an afternoon with likeminded lady’s fundraising for all our service personnel and their family, but nearly a hundred years on life has changed women can no longer stay at home many have full time jobs, and we now have our own female veterans.
A decline in membership, small branches closing and the possibility of this branch closing. Changes with in the Women’s Section happening, some members felt we have been here for 90 years can we re-launch the branch.
Pleased to say that in April 2017 a re-launch was made we are now the Bury St Edmunds & District Branch, next thing was finding somewhere to meet with a car park nearby, that’s how we ended up at the Moreton Hall Youth Centre. Meeting on the first Thursday of the month at 7.30pm.
We have a very relaxed monthly evening meeting with an age group from thirty’s to the eighties, members do not need a military back ground. With guild lines from the RBL still in place we are just women from all walks of life getting together enjoying a night out, our moto is friendship fun and a little fundraising.
We are still a small branch enjoying a get together but would very much like to welcome more ladies to come along and see what we our about.
We are holding a Coffee Morning on Friday 26th April 10am -12 at the Youth Centre and we hope that the residents of Moreton Hall will come and say hello, and enjoy home made cake along with a cuppa and a chat.
