We touched briefly on our upcoming Soapbox challenge last month so I would like to tell you a bit more about it and how you can be involved.

Last year saw us take to Mount Road, Bury St Edmunds for our first ever Soapbox Challenge and it was a roaring success with only one collapsed soapbox! This year we are back, bigger and better and have made the course more challenging to really test out your soapbox building skills! Do you think you have what it takes to beat the course and take home the trophy?

Taking place on Saturday 31st August we want teams to design and build their own soapboxes. There is an award for Best Soap Box so make sure to go all out to be in with a chance of winning. Last year saw Super Mario, a White Horse, a Green Duck, even a Stillery gin machine take to the streets, so if you possess a bit of creative flare then grab some team mates and get designing.

Soapbox built and shown off at Soapbox City, you will then have to present a group performance before racing your carts down the hill. Last year HS Direct took the crown as their team took on the theme of Austin Powers with a brilliant routine. I should also just like to point out we will also accept dad dancing for those of you who don’t know your left from your right.
Dancing done, it will then be down to serious business of the race! You need to manoeuvre your way down the hill, over the ramp, round the bends and try to do that in the quickest possible time, without falling out, your soapbox crumbling or crashing into the hay bales! Last year’s fastest time went to Spiral Hardwear with a time of 36.75 seconds. Can you beat it? Brakes are a MUST unfortunately and no, no engines are allowed, yes we really have been asked that!

This year we have also added best fundraiser for the team who raise the most money for West Suffolk Hospital alongside the challenge. This year all the money raised will be going to our Butterfly Appeal. This appeal enables us to enhance the care we can give to our patients and their family members at the end of their life, I’m sure you will agree a very worthy cause! If you need any ideas of how to fundraise we are here to help. It really is a fantastic day that brings the community together. Whether it’s teambuilding with your company, plotting with your pub or just a group of mates having some fun and making memories then this is the event for you.

We want to say a HUGE thank you to our main event sponsors HS Direct and Treatt. We still have lots of other sponsorship and advertising opportunities available, if you want to be involved.
