Finishing touches have been put on 26 wolves that form an art trail around Bury St Edmunds for the next four months. The trail officially opened on Monday 20th July with the creations placed in prominent locations around the town centre.
Each of the wolves, 20 of which are life-size or bigger, is made from different materials including topiary, willow, metal, fabric and recycled materials. The initiative has been made possible thanks to the Business Improvement District (BID) organisation Ourburystedmunds, working with partners who make up the ‘Town Team’ group.
The trail has been inspired by similar art trails across the UK and the wolf was chosen because of its connection to the legend
of St Edmund. An online competition is running to find 10 of the wolves offering a chance to win £100 in shopping vouchers. Alternatively for the more ambitious there are others prizes available for those who track down all 26 wolves. Entry forms are available from all the Tourist Information Points in the town and also from the Ourburystedmunds website.
Chief Executive of Ourburystedmunds Mark Cordell said: “The artists have worked incredibly hard to make this trail a reality
in a relatively short period of time. Our launch event last week gave those attending the only chance to see a number of the artworks together in one place and many commented how stunning they are. We did have a slight setback at the weekend when an attempt was made to steal one of the wolves from its position on Angel Hill, but fortunately it was unsuccessful and as a result we have been able to step up our security measures, helped by local CCTV operators and the police.”
